Doug Maxwell

let me try to come up with a list and if you need to edit it, that is ok. Thanks for your support.

1985 Honda XL350R Refurbish:

1)     Disassemble bike completely
2)     Refurbish and paint frame Performance Red
3)     Rework all plastics (sand and fill scratches and gouges, and paint black or combination of red and black) Reworking of plastics included learning to plastic weld to fill unwanted holes and rebuild side covers with missing alignment pegs.
4)     Refurbish and paint XL 600 stock gas tank to use on XL 350.
5)     Replace stock swing arm and mono shock with XR 350 R swing arm and shock in order to gain better ride control. Swing arm was sanded and polished then clear coated to maintain high luster.
6)     Added rear wheel, hub and brake assembly from XR 500. (XL 350 stock wheel would not fit in swing arm due to dampeners.
7)     Added luggage rack from XL 350 R found on Ebay.
8)     Powder coated Skid plate, rear fender insert, foot pegs, rear brake control, luggage rack and kick- stand.
9)     Cleaned, polished or replaced all hardware.
10) Polished engine mounts.
11)  Reworked and repaired as needed complete wiring harness.
12)  Cleaned, polished and reworked as necessary all lights including turn signals.
13) Painted entire motor assembly and polished valve covers and exterior of cylinder fins per original design.
14) Added black boots to front forks
15) Replaced original blue seat cover with a red cover. (Built foam up slightly)
16) Added Maier hand-guards to front handlebars.
17) Sanded and polished plastic tool- box.
18) Added custom-built aluminum kickstand to accommodate added height of bike.

Modifications to the swing arm yield 1 inch in length from original and provide more adjustability in ride given two adjustment areas on the mono shock and the addition of a nitrogen and oil damper. (A bracket was added to the frame to hold the damper as was done on the XR models).

The color scheme for this bike was modeled after XL 350 R bikes that were built for and sold in Brazil with a few modifications to suit my liking.

Cheers,
Doug
