Joey's Bikes

These two bikes are owned by my good friend Joey Greene. Though ten years younger, Joey and I followed the same route in motorcycle racing. Joey started in flat track, went on to road racing, and is now retired from the tarmac. Joey's dad, Horace (Hoss) Greene is the owner of an independent motorcycle shop, The Company,  in Hickory, NC, and is probably the best motorcycle mechanic I have had the pleasure to know.

Joey most recently raced modern day Honda RS125s in WERA and was the SE champion, at the same time I was racing a CB450 in AHRMA and WERA. Furthermore, Joey was a SCCA sports car champ, racing Datsun 510s and Swifts. Joey now collects vintage race bikes and what you see below are just two in his stable.

This next bike has a bit of interesting history. In the early 70s, here in Hickory, Ted Cummings (now an attorney), owned the Honda motorcycle franchise, Wheel Sports. I bought some parts from Ted, but was mostly into European dirt bikes. At that time, Ted had Joey (who worked, as a kid for Ted, mechanic'ing, and assembling bikes) pull a new XL250 engine to send to Yoshimura. Ted paid that prestigious company to race kit the engine. The engine was then put into a Champion frame with an Elsinore front end to make a TT bike. Joey says he won several amateur flat track events on this bike.

The bike stayed in storage from 1974 until last year. Joey bought the bike and restored it to its original glory. I've started the bike - it sure sounds sweet. I've been after Joey to bring it up the mountain, and let's ride it around my flat track. As yet, nope....
